| Through a
thoughtful, aesthetic, and intuitive
process involving line and string, I
intend to elevate primitive form to a
level of unexpected dialog. String as
ordinary linear object gives way to form,
beginning a dialog and teasing toward
association. Because line is so common in
our society, used in writing, science,
math, music, and many other ways, it has
a profound capacity for association.
Furthermore, when string is taken out of
it's expected context and thoughtfully
arranged as line with other material and
formal elements, it encourages new
associative possibities. The intent of
association in my work is not random,
however. The forms in my work are often
within a relational context of nature,
but they are not so well defined that the
source of inspiration is easily
discerned. The forms may be directly
abstracted from naturally occuring ones,
or they may simply be similar. |
